Location: Perth
Communications Support Technician.
Turn your Defence Communications Experience into a civilian career.
Are you a veteran or transitioning ADF member with experience in communications, signals, networking, IT, electronics, information systems or technical support?
Your Defence experience could be exactly what our client is looking for.
Our client supports critical communications solutions across Defence, Government, maritime, emergency services, mining and enterprise environments. Our client is looking for a Communications Support Technician to join their Perth team and help keep our customers connected, supported and operational.
This is an opportunity to take the skills you have developed in Defence and apply them in a civilian technical environment, while continuing to work with communications technology and customers operating in demanding environments.
What you will be doing.
As a Communications Support Technician, you will provide Level 1 and Level 2 technical support and assist with the operation, maintenance, configuration and troubleshooting of communications and network systems.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Troubleshooting communications, networking, wireless and connectivity issues.
- Supporting customer incidents, outages and service disruptions.
- Monitoring systems and identifying potential issues.
- Configuring and maintaining communications and networking equipment.
- Assisting with satellite communications, IP networks, Wi-Fi, VPN, LTE/5G and mobility solutions.
- Supporting the installation, commissioning and testing of communications systems.
- Assisting with remote and field-based technical deployments.
- Maintaining accurate technical records, documentation and asset registers.
- Working with engineers, technicians, vendors and customers to resolve technical issues.
- Supporting operational readiness, incident response and continuous improvement.
- Providing professional technical support and customer service.
- Your Defence Experience can translate. Don’t assume that because your previous job had a military title, your experience doesn’t count. Defence personnel often develop exactly the attributes required for this role.
- If you have worked in Signals, Communications, IT, Information Systems, Electronics, Networking or a similar Defence trade, you may already have experience that translates directly into this position.
Trouble Shooting and Problem Solving
ADF personnel are trained to identify faults, assess situations, troubleshoot problems and find solutions — often under pressure and with limited resources. These are highly valuable skills in technical support.
Operational Readiness
Defence places a strong emphasis on ensuring equipment, systems and personnel are ready when required. That same mindset is critical when supporting communications infrastructure for Defence, emergency services, mining and other essential customers.
Working Under Pressure
From your defence experience you would have worked in environments where communications or equipment needed to be restored quickly and where downtime could have significant consequences. This experience is highly transferable to incident and fault management.
You will already be familiar with working as part of a team from your service career, communicating clearly, supporting your colleagues and working with people from different trades, ranks and areas of expertise.
Customer and Stakeholder Service
Whether you were supporting commanders, other units, Defence personnel or external stakeholders, your ability to communicate professionally, understand requirements and provide a reliable service is directly relevant to supporting their customers.
Following Procedures and standards
Defence experience means understanding the importance of safety, security, compliance, documentation and maintaining high standards. These behaviours are essential when working with critical communications infrastructure.
Security and Confidentiality
Experience working within Defence environments can provide a strong understanding of information security, secure communications, operational security and the importance of protecting sensitive information.
