Turn your Defence experience into a rewarding civilian career with our client.
Are you a veteran or transitioning ADF member with experience coordinating people, managing competing priorities, working with systems and delivering outcomes in a structured environment?
You may already have many of the skills we are looking for.
Our client owns and operates Western Australia’s largest gas distribution network, providing an essential service to more than 800,000 homes and businesses across the state.
They are looking for a planner to join their team on a 12-month fixed-term contract. This is a busy and varied role where you will coordinate customer requests, schedule site works, manage work orders and help keep activities moving efficiently from enquiry through to completion.
If you have come from Defence, logistics, operations, administration, customer service, scheduling or coordination, your experience could translate extremely well into this role.
As a Planner, you will coordinate site work requests, create and monitor work orders and ensure customers and stakeholders receive timely and accurate support.
You will work closely with field teams, internal departments and customers to ensure work is prioritised, scheduled and completed efficiently.
This role requires someone who can stay organised, communicate effectively, solve problems and maintain high standards, even when priorities change.
What you will do:
- Review customer requests and create work orders for site-based activities.
- Manage incoming enquiries and prioritise requests through a shared Outlook mailbox.
- Dispatch and monitor work orders, ensuring activities are completed and accurately closed out.
- Coordinate with field teams and internal stakeholders to keep work moving and meet service delivery targets.
- Raise purchase orders, process invoices and assist with procurement activities.
- Support reporting, data analysis and maintaining accurate operational records.
- Provide professional and responsive customer service.
- Manage multiple priorities while ensuring safety, accuracy and service standards are maintained.
You don’t need to have worked in the gas industry to bring valuable experience to this role.
Defence personnel develop many of the skills required to be successful in planning and coordination roles, including:
Planning & Coordination
You may have coordinated personnel, equipment, movements, tasks or operations while working to deadlines and established procedures.
Working Under Pressure
Defence environments require you to remain calm, organised and focused when priorities change and multiple tasks need to be managed at once.
Teamwork & Communication
You will have experience working as part of a team, communicating with different stakeholders and ensuring everyone understands what needs to happen.
Customer Service & Stakeholder Management
Whether supporting internal customers, other units, Defence personnel or members of the public, your ability to communicate professionally and provide a reliable service is highly transferable.
Following Procedures & Maintaining Standards
Defence places a strong emphasis on safety, compliance, accuracy and following established processes. These behaviours are equally important in an essential-services environment.
Attention to Detail
Managing records, documentation, equipment, schedules and operational information requires accuracy — skills that are directly applicable to planning and administration roles.
Problem Solving
Defence personnel are accustomed to identifying issues, assessing options and finding practical solutions while keeping the mission or task moving.
Systems & Technology
If you have experience working with Defence systems, databases, Microsoft Office, logistics platforms or other operational systems, these skills can provide a strong foundation for learning ATCO’s systems.
About you:
Our client looking for someone who is organised, adaptable and takes pride in delivering a high standard of customer service.
You will ideally have:
- Experience in customer service, administration, planning, scheduling, logistics or operations.
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
- The ability to manage competing priorities and changing requirements.
- Confidence working across multiple IT systems and databases.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Experience using Microsoft Office 365.
- SAP experience would be highly regarded, but is not essential.
Veterans and transitioning Defence personnel are encouraged to apply. If you don’t meet every requirement but can demonstrate strong transferable skills from Defence, we are keen to hear from you
What is on offer:
