Working together to provide better veteran employment outcomes

Updated: Mar 15, 2023

The Minister for Police; Road Safety; Defence Industry; Veterans Issues, the Hon Paul Papalia CSC MLA announced on ANZAC Day the partnership between Working Spirit and the Returned and Services League in WA to provide a Joint Veteran Employment Program. They will deliver a comprehensive employment program for veterans and their families, including the development of a veteran-specific jobs portal.

Since late 2021 Sherry Baxter from RSL Vet Jobs has been working closely with Working Spirit Staff on resume reviews, as well as job placement. This was followed on with a success Military to Civilian Career Summit that was held for the first time on a military base in Australia.

This collaboration has led to veterans who have gone through RSLWA to find employment being offered interviews with Working Spirit clients and vice versa. It has also led to a collaboration on a veteran recruiting innovation that will be available later in the second half of this year.

With an increase of veterans and transitioning ADF members coming to Western Australia for work, the Working Spirit / RSLWA joint venture is well positioned to provide these veterans with better employment outcomes in to the future.
